Delivered Serbia's First 5MVA Microgrid PV-Storage-Charging Integrated Project for Bus Depots, Empowering the Green Upgrade of Electric Buses

LINDEMANN-REGNER, a benchmark enterprise in the global energy solutions field, recently successfully delivered Serbia’s first MWh-level microgrid PV-storage-charging integrated project for bus depots in Belgrade, Serbia. Tailor-made for a new depot capable of accommodating 50 Yutong electric buses, the project features a 5MVA microgrid system. It innovatively addresses the high-performance power supply needs for large-scale simultaneous charging of electric buses while effectively avoiding the risk of grid overload, injecting strong momentum into the sustainable modernization of public transportation infrastructure in Serbia.

Extreme Challenges Drive Innovation, PV-Storage-Charging Solution Breaks the Dilemma

The new electric bus depot in Belgrade served by this project has a core demand for efficient charging support for 50 Yutong electric buses. The dual requirements of „high-performance simultaneous charging of 50 buses“ and „avoiding grid overload“ have become the core challenges for project advancement. Traditional power supply modes either struggle to meet the power demands of large-scale simultaneous charging or impose significant load pressure on the local power grid, easily causing power supply instability and other issues that severely restrict the operational efficiency of the electric bus depot.

In response to this industry pain point, LINDEMANN-REGNER customized a 5MVA microgrid solution with a core technical architecture of „grid connection + photovoltaic integration + synchronous load management for 50 electric vehicles“, fundamentally solving the energy supply challenge of large-scale centralized charging of electric buses.

Precise Full-Process Implementation, Technology Empowers Project Delivery

To ensure the efficient implementation of the project, LINDEMANN-REGNER formed a professional team to oversee the entire project process: in the preliminary planning phase, it completed the photovoltaic system design and load management plan formulation in combination with the actual depot scenario; in the mid-term implementation phase, it focused on the construction of the load management system and the integration and connection with the local power grid; in the later stage, it verified the feasibility of the plan through system simulation tests and completed the commissioning and operation of high-performance charging points. Currently, the project has fully passed acceptance and been officially put into operation.

Remarkable Multi-Dimensional Results, Driving the Green Transformation of Public Transportation

The successful commissioning of the project provides solid support for the sustainable modernization of public transportation infrastructure in Serbia, achieving multiple significant results: first, establishing high-performance charging points adapted to 50 Yutong electric buses to meet the demand for large-scale centralized charging; second, maximizing the proportion of renewable energy use through in-depth integration and efficient utilization of photovoltaic energy; third, significantly reducing depot operating costs relying on an intelligent energy management system; fourth, realizing high stability and flexibility of power grid operation through the flexible adjustment capability of the microgrid, completely solving the grid load pressure problem under the traditional charging mode.

Supported by Core Technologies, Forging Efficient and Reliable Advantages

The excellent performance of the project is attributed to the support of a number of core technologies, demonstrating LINDEMANN-REGNER’s leading technical strength in the field of microgrids and PV-storage-charging. First, it adopts a 5MVA grid-connected microgrid architecture with strong power-carrying capacity, providing a stable energy foundation for large-scale charging. Second, it integrates photovoltaic integration and intelligent load management technology, which can dynamically adjust energy distribution according to photovoltaic power generation and charging demand, realizing efficient energy utilization. Third, the entire project has passed dual authoritative certifications of TÜV and CE, ensuring the reliability and compliance of the system in terms of technical standards and safety performance.

Quantitative Data Confirm, Significant Sustainable Benefits

A series of quantitative performance data intuitively demonstrates the outstanding value of the project in terms of energy efficiency and sustainable development: successfully providing high-performance charging services for 50 Yutong electric buses; achieving 100% power supply guarantee for simultaneous charging of 50 buses, completely eliminating the risk of charging interruption; the proportion of renewable energy in depot operations increased by 25%, with the energy structure continuously optimized; through the efficient use of solar energy, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 40 tons per year, delivering significant green benefits.

Bruce Urilege, Project Manager of LINDEMANN-REGNER, said: „As Serbia’s first microgrid PV-storage-charging integrated project for bus depots, this delivery not only fills the technical gap in the relevant field locally but also provides a reference model for the upgrading of electric bus infrastructure in other European countries. In the future, we will continue to focus on technological innovation in the new energy transportation field, contributing more solutions to the global green transformation of public transportation.“
